Check your Light Bulbs! Switching from incandesent bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs may seem expensive at first however they last longer and use less energy than the normal incadesent bulbs. If switching is still not in your budget there are other ways you can save energy,Wednesday, November 19, 2008

I'm enrolled in a class called Enviromental Field Science. It is taught by Mrs. Jacobs and is really fun. Because Mrs. Jacobs is too overworked (she'd most likley rather want to watch the tube)she decided to fill the schedual feild trips for the whole semester. It is kinda of nice however, recording the data formally is boring. For The first feild trip series we are going to collect bug samples from each part of the stream. We identify them and then put them back into the creek as to not disrupt the enviroment. To all of you who are unaware of where garden creek there is a simple map to the left which you can click on to view the area. If you understand location better by wrriten word then here is my very vauge discription of the creek. It starts on Casper Mountain and flows into Rotary Park (also known as the Falls.) It then runs down the mountain to the Audobon Center where it converges with another small creek. It then runs through Sunrise and dumps into the N.Platte River. Anyways we've been to two sites so far the Audobon Park and the falls. There are 12 different macroinvertabretes (insects) that we look for to caculate the pollution Stonefly being the most sesitive and Worms being the most tolerent to pollution. Again if you could think of more concerns or subjects that you think are important to the enviroment and such please share them they will take a key role in my next post.Thursday, September 18, 2008

Alright this is the first of many series I hope to come to this blog. The post and what is used for is described in the 'how this blog will work' post in the month of August, look in the archive. So the Eco-Tip for this month is BYOB bring your own bottle. Water bottle for this matter. Many people hey i'll buy this diposable water bottle and maybe use it for the week. WRONG!!!! the diposable water bottles with the # 1 or 2 recycle seem toxins into your body after refilling it once. So the short and simple answer go with a tin or a nalgene type bottle. If you decide to use the nalgene bottle make sure it's BPA free. BPA is a chemical that was in a lot of water bottles before three or four months ago. It was proven to cause hormonal issues in peoples offsprings. So I wouldn't use old nalgene watere bottles or any with the recycle numbers 3,5, or 6 unless it was proven to be BPA free.Thursday, August 28, 2008
